JBG- Cooler Inventory Manager

Position Summary: The Cooler Inventory Manager is an essential role on the farm, working closely with our CSA, Farmer’s Markets, and Wholesale Managers as well as the Harvest and Crop and Field Managers to ensure that all departmental needs are met and that harvest and sales are coordinating. Competitive candidates should have experience in the produce/agriculture industry (warehouse experience preferred), be responsible, efficient, and flexible, and have strong communication skills. This is a full-time, year round position.

 

Responsibilities
  • Unloads 2 or more harvest trucks daily from our Garfield Farm into the coolers at our Hergotz Farm
  • Maintains organization of produce in all coolers, and ensures that produce is being stored at the proper temperature and humidity
  • Compares total daily needs with actual harvest numbers, subtracting any extra inventory on hand, and quickly communicating and resolving any shortages (or overages) with all departments, including possible swap items
  • Identifies any quality issues and quickly communicates them to the harvest manager and appropriate departments
  • Ensures that all coolers and storage facilities are kept sanitary; maintains a regular cleaning and temperature log
  • Reports any facility maintenance and repair issues to the Farm Mechanic in a timely fashion
  • Fills in as necessary with other departments
  • Maintains organization of IFCOs, harvest containers, and pallets, including coordination of return of broken pallets and sourcing new ones
  • Coordinates weekly maintenance of lawns and weeds around facility.
 

Qualifications
  • Highly organized, past experience in produce warehouse management or other fast paced, high-volume environment preferred
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Solid understanding of produce quality and storage conditions, and best practices
  • Self-directed and independent worker
  • Experience using a forklift and pallet jack
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • An interest in agriculture and promotion of local and organic farming highly preferred
  • Ability to work cross-culturally; Spanish speaking, while not required, is a plus
  • Willingness to work extra hours during seasonal peaks --
    • Typical schedule - M-F 10AM-7PM
 

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50lbs
  • Ability to repeatedly kneel, bend, and squat
  • Ability to withstand exposure to varying weather conditions
  • Ability to withstand prolonged standing or walking
 

Compensation and Benefits
  • Compensation is dependent on experience. Expected salary range is $12-$13/hour.
  • Paid bi-weekly (dozen eggs included) as well as weekly supply of organic vegetables.
  • Permanent employees are eligible for Individual Health Plan benefits
